We are so screwed...

Does everyone realize that we just lost to a team that was beaten badly by Notre Dame, who was slaughtered by USC, who lost to Stanford. Basically, we suck far worse than anyone thought.

Cal > Oregon > Stanford > USC > Notre Dame > UCLA > Cal

the transitive theory in college football does not compute

I've checked your equation for the transitive theory of football, and if you add the subscripts, I think it will start to make some sense:

Cal (September) > Oregon > Stanford > USC > Notre Dame > UCLA > Cal (October)

Since one of the universal laws of football is:

Cal (September) > Cal (October)

The Bears usually do well early in the season, but crush all of our hopes and dreams by mid-October. Would anyone settle for the Holiday bowl now?

Wes does make a good point. Except for the stunning loss to UCLA last year, Carroll's Trojans haven't lost a regular season game after mid-October.

We're the opposites of each other - Cal starts out strong and then fades while USC starts slowly but turns it on at the end of the season.

eg - Tedford's only win against Carroll came in late September. Every other game since the two have been coaching has come after mid-October.
